I found some M4 x 9 washers that I sorted thru and found groups of 3 that were that height, +/- 0.03 mm (about 0.001 inch). The difference in height between the non-IHS CPUs and the normal CPUs with IHS attached is 2.24 mm (0.088 inch). In raw power, that's 8x2.26 GHz = 18.08 GHz total (before upgrade), and 12x2.8 GHz = 33.6 GHz total (after upgrade). The new CPUs I selected have 50% more cores ( 12 vs 8 ), and every individual core is ~25% faster. I don't remember reading about hearing the apple bong after the long tone so I'm wondering if it should be restarting after the bong? The a couple seconds later I hear the Apple Bong and it seems(doing this blind) to be updating the firmware as it will restart automaticly after a few minutes. Hit lower button and hold until the light rapidly starts to blink then let go.
I currently lack an EFI graphics card so I am doing this blind, running dual titans.Įverything seems to run as it should but just doesn't say 5,1.

I'm having issues trying to update to 5,1 from 4,1.
I now have 2 junk backplane boards sitting collecting dust from a problem I've never had with the 30 or so that I've also successfully upgraded myself.
